Next, your dedicated cyber consultant will conduct an audit of your current cybersecurity controls, working through a comprehensive cyber control checklist.

To begin with, Cyber Essentials sets out the standard baseline for cyber security, and as a result it offers protection from up to 80% of IT security breaches.
Because it was developed by the UK Government in response to a growing cyber threat, it is now a mandatory requirement for all Government supply chain contracts and, increasingly, for a wide range of commercial tenders.
In fact, there are two levels of certification. In the first stage, basic Cyber Essentials is awarded to organisations that demonstrate – through the completion of an online self-assessment questionnaire – that they have effective cyber security measures in place.
Cyber Essentials Plus, on the other hand, is awarded when an organisation has its cyber controls independently audited to confirm they are working effectively.
Importantly, this audit must be completed within 3 months of obtaining the basic certificate, so planning ahead is essential.
